In this scene, a group of P-40s of the American Volunteer Group (AVG) take to the Burmese skies alongside RAF Brewster “Buffalos’ from 67 Squadron during an early morning mission in early 1942.
In late December 1941, as Japanese forces aggressively advanced through Southeast Asia, Rangoon, Burma became a critical target due to its strategic importance for Allied supply routes into China. During these beginning months, the AVG operated out of several bases in Burma, sharing airfields with their British and Commonwealth allies, but faced with overwhelming enemy numbers and operating in extremely harsh conditions with limited resources and constant danger. By March 1942 they evacuated Burma and relocated to bases in China, but not before achieving worldwide acclaim for their aerial combat record which earned them the familiar nickname "Flying Tigers”.

About this Signature Edition:
In 2004, members of the AVG gathered to sign lithographs of John Shaw’s Summer of ’42 in Orlando, Florida. A small number of these signed prints were later found to have some printer’s flaws in the main image, but the prints & signatures have remained un-numbered in flawless condition and stored for over two decades. Rather than discarding these valuable pieces of history, beautiful archival paper giclée overlays of Flying Tigers in Burma have been produced and permanently mounted on them, creating a whole new, unique archival print, likely the last time a new print will ever come available with a sizable quantity of wonderful AVG veteran signatures.
This Special Edition also features a BRASS TITLE PLATE replacing the printed title beneath, along with new info caption description. Each one is custom hand-crafted and includes an informative multi-page Certificate Booklet with biographies and historic photos of all the signatories. ONLY 30 of these valuable collectibles are available.
